Lemon Ginger Turmeric Wellness Shot
With coronavirus in full effect, so many people are asking about things that they can do at home (after they come in to get their immunity boosting adjustment, of course!) So here is one of my favorites - these immunity boosting shots are a staple in my house. Especially when any kind of sickness rolls around.
I have to admit that I am not good at all at recipes and amounts of each ingredient to use, so I found this one online from MinimalistBakerOnline with all of my usual ingredients and have adapted it a bit!
This recipe calls for a juicer! If you do not have a juicer though, it is no big deal! You can blend the ingredients and either make it more of a smoothie consistency, or blend and the strain it. The juicer that we use in my household can be found here. This was one of the first items on my wedding registry!
So why these specific ingredients? Besides the anti-inflammatory quality (which everyone needs more of!), let’s dive into them a little more.
Turmeric contains a compound called curcumin, which boasts amazing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.
Ginger is a natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant that’s known to aid digestion and relieve nausea.
Lemon is naturally detoxifying and alkalizing in the body, aids in healthy bowel movements, and boasts plenty of vitamin C, which boosts the immune system.
Oranges are a good source of vitamin C as well, and several other vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, it also adds a little bit of sweetness to a more tar drink.
Coconut Water is an excellent source of electrolytes and helps to keep you hydrated!
And black pepper helps boost the absorption of turmeric by up to 2,000%. Yes, 2,000!
Lemon Ginger Turmeric Wellness Shot Recipe
The following recipe makes about 12 large shots. And the prep time is about 15 minutes!
INGREDIENTS
2 large oranges (add 1-2 more oranges for added sweetness / omit and add another lemon for less sweetness!)
10 small lemons (add 1-2 more lemons for more acidity / reduce by half and add another orange for less acidity!)
1.25 cup chopped fresh turmeric (peeling optional)
1.25 cup chopped fresh ginger (peeling optional)
0.5 tsp fresh black pepper
Coconut water to taste
INSTRUCTIONS
JUICER: To a juicer, add orange, lemon, turmeric, and ginger. I prefer peeling the lemon and the oranges (even though you don’t have to peel lemons in a juicer). If the turmeric and ginger are not organic, you’ll definitely want to peel them, but I still peel mine too!
FOR SERVING: Add in your coconut water to taste and divide between serving glasses and enjoy! For maximum benefits, enjoy immediately and top with fresh cracked black pepper.
FOR STORING: Store any leftovers covered in the refrigerator. Online suggest only 24 hours, but I tend to make for the week! You’re always going to get maximum benefits when fresh. I also add in the black pepper now so that I don’t forget to add later.
LEFTOVER PULP: You can compost any leftover pulp or freeze into an ice cube try and add to future smoothies!!
